Letter to Miss Dot at Seventeen Months!

Dear Miss Dot,

You’re 17 months old!!!  I meant to write this post two months ago, but am just now getting around to it… time flies when you’re having fun.

We have now been living in Greensboro for about three months.  It has been a fun and wild three months, with a lot of work getting our new house set up, some fun around town, and you growing and changing into a whole new kid.  You're really enjoying summer time in the South, but it's been sweaty and hot - and we're all looking forward to the Fall.

You’re a toddler now -- that's for sure!

The last three months you’ve been doing all sorts of new things.  You are definitely able to walk now – though you still refuse to take the plunge and walk everywhere.  If we tell you to “practice walking” you are able to take about 10-15 steps between us in the play room, and you've gone even further at daycare and at home the last couple of days.  You also LOVE when we “walk” you around the house by holding one of your hands and giving you some balance.  You can walk the perimeter of a room easily now.  I think in a few weeks, you’ll be on the move!

You’re also getting a lot of teeth – we took you to your first dentist appointment last month.  You did a great job!  The dentist said you had a lot of molars and some canines coming in.  You love using those new teeth to gnaw on everything and are finally able to grind some food that you struggled with before.  You also love sticking your finger in your mouth and feeling those teeth.  I got you an electric toothbrush which you think is awesome – mainly because you always loved grabbing mama’s toothbrush!  You let mama and daddy brush your teeth with it every night and I also brush your teeth in the morning before daycare.  The dentist said your pearly whites looked pretty good so far.

At the dentist with all the fun toys there!

You still love swinging, playing with your water table, baths, playing outside, exploring anything you can get your hands on, and hanging with your family.  Your favorite toys are your Little People and Little People Bus from Aunt Stephanie, your water table from Grammy and Pa, and you still love your stuffed animals.  You also have finally decided you love your climbing blocks that mama got you – you love to jump on them and reach down between them to grab things you’ve dropped.  You still love hanging upside down like a monkey and climbing all over mama and daddy.

On the weekend of July 4th, we took a trip to Boone and rented a cabin.  You loved the whole trip.  We took Kala for walks, explored the downtown area, played in the hot tub, and let daddy drink some delicious beer!  Hopefully we can go back when you’re a little bit bigger so that you are able to explore even more.

You’ve become quite a chatter box.  We can’t even count all the words that you can say now.  You’ve gotten very good at mimicking mama and daddy.  Daddy taught you how to say Batman, and he was very satisfied with himself!  You also say hot, cold, up, sky, trees, cheese, eggs, eye, Pa, sit, two, pasta, bye-bye – and many other words.  You can also identify your hair, nose, eyes, belly, and tongue!

You still love eating!  You love using your spoon, which is your new favorite skill.  You're doing pretty well, but you still end up with yogurt all over your face.  Your favorite food is still any pasta with red sauce on it.  You also want whatever mama and daddy are eating.

You're still sleeping pretty well.  You had some sleep disruptions with your teeth coming in and would wake up crying sometimes at night.  Usually you'd go back to sleep after mama gave you your Koala back and put you back in your crib with your blanket.  Luckily, you've stopped doing that as much now.  Back to a good 7 pm - 7 am routine!

The next couple of months should be busy for us!  We are going on a vacation to Iceland and Paris with Grammy and Pa.  We can’t wait to explore the scenery of Iceland and eat some delicious French food.  Hopefully you’ll have fun on the trip.  Mama will write another update after our trip with some photos!

Love,
Mama
