Miss Dot,
It has taken me a few weeks to write this because I haven’t had the time. It’s been a crazy month! We moved on May 19th from Falls Church, Virginia to Greensboro, North Carolina. Mama and Daddy both decided that we needed new jobs, a slower pace of life for all of us, and we wanted to be closer to Mama’s family.
Daddy looked for a job for a while and finally found one at a law firm in Greensboro that does patent prosecution. He thought it was the perfect job for him because it seemed interesting, less stressful than his old job because he wouldn’t have to travel and do litigation, and the hours were a lot more regular than his job in Washington, DC, so he could spend more time with you! So he decided to take the job and Mama asked her job if she could be transferred to Greensboro. Luckily, the IRS, where Mama works, has offices all over the country and they just happen to have an office in Greensboro, NC. Mama will be doing a totally different type of work too, which she is excited about. So far, Mama and Daddy both like their new jobs!
It was a crazy move – we came down on Easter weekend and had to find a house. We found a really nice house in New Irving Park, only a few streets over from Aunt Stephanie, Uncle Rob, Katie, and Clara. It’s really nice that you will be able to play with them so much and one day maybe we can convince Katie to babysit you. So far you like the new house – you have a big play room and Mama got you some new blocks that you love to climb and play on. You also LOVE your new bedroom and the soft carpet we had installed. You have a ton of room now in your bedroom and you love rolling around on the floor and playing. Grammy and Pa got you a new water table, and you are finally warming up to the grass in the back yard. You didn’t care for the grass at first and would refuse to set foot on it, or leg. You have lots of space to play out in the yard once you’re a little bigger. We are even working on getting you a nice, new swing set.
We’ve had a lot going on. In addition to finding a house and moving, we had to find you a new daycare and start new jobs, all at the same time. Luckily, after we found out a lot of daycares in Greensboro have quite a waiting list, we found you a daycare right near mama’s work that is working out well. You seem to like it. We will probably move you to one closer to our home, that is even nicer, in a few months, so that Daddy can take you to daycare in the mornings, and you won’t have to ride with Mama all the way to work.
You’ve done pretty well with the transition to our new home. You had a rough few weeks at daycare before
we moved because you were getting sick all of the time. You even got sent home sick on your last day
of daycare when the movers were packing the house! But we've done a lot of new things this month. You went to the Greensboro Science Center and saw the goats, ate biscuits the size of your head, played with your cousins, Aunt Stephanie and Uncle Rob, and went in a baby pool for the first time, you hung out with Grammy, Pa, and Great Grandma Byrd, and you went to your first baseball game at the Grasshoppers park!
Kala is having a harder time with the move – she doesn’t
like that her things are in different places and that Mama and Daddy are not
working from home as much. Mama is going
to try to work from home sometimes starting in September, so hopefully that
will make her happier. She does like our
new back yard though!
We’ve done a lot this month – well since Mama’s last post for your birthday. Mama will write another post for you when you are 15 months, which is coming up next week!
Love,
