You're TWO!!!

Miss Dot,

I cannot believe you are already two years old.  It's been quite a year.  You've become such a toddler (physically and mentally) and so many new things have happened.  We have had a lot of changes as a family, but nothing seems to phase you.  Here is a family picture of us from October (a few months ago).

Your personality is quite distinct.  You've become a little spit-fire and Mama thinks you may have gotten some of her spunk!  You like things your way and you are not bashful about telling Mama and Daddy.  At the same time, you are somewhat shy and reserved around strangers - more like your Daddy was as a child.  You are a very careful child and usually listen to instruction, but you like to tell everyone what to do.  You like to say "Mama!  Sit righ' here!"  Or "Daddy, wake UP!"  Or "Kalamata, come here!  GO KALAMATA!"  You are always in charge of what is happening.  You also are demanding when you want something - like your koala or milk.  You have become a huge fan of the movie Sing! and you will demand "Watch ANIMALS!"  We let you watch some TV, but you get very transfixed, so we like to encourage you to play in your play room too.

Even though you're wild, you're a sweet girl too - you give us kisses and hugs, and love petting Kala.  Some days after school you're exhausted and you just want to cuddle Mama on the couch.

We've took a trip up to DC in December and you got to visit some of our old friends.  You also got to attend Judge Hughes' Christmas party at the Federal Circuit and go to a Christmas party with your baby group!  It was so much fun.  We also recently had our first visitors in North Carolina - Sara, Paul and Lily!  It was so much fun to play with Lily and show them around Greensboro!

You just had your second birthday party - which was Peppa Pig themed.  You love watching Peppa Pig and you had all kinds of Peppa Pig decor and toys at your party.  We had your birthday party at our house and your Great Grandma Byrd, Grammy, Pa, Aunt Stephanie, Uncle Rob, Katie, and Clara all came.  We also had several of our neighborhood friends and their kids.  We had fun, games, cake, and lots of craziness.  Mama got you some decor from Party City and we got a cake topper and some other fun stuff from Etsy.com.  You got a cute tutu to wear, which you were obsessed with, and refused to take off.  You were so exhausted after your party!

You got some fun presents for your birthday.  Aunt Stephanie, Uncle Rob, Katie and Clara got you a new keyboard - which you love.  You also got a really cool baby cradle from Grammy and Pa.  You can't stop playing with it.  Grammy Byrd made you a really nice blanket to keep until you're older.  You got a bunch of cool presents from your California family - Aunt Helen, Uncle Steve, Tiffany and Sydney!  They sent you a cool Peppa Pig chair to use in the movie theater, a bunch of neat bath and pool toys, some really pretty shoes and art supplies!  Mama and Daddy also got you a big girl play set for the back yard!!  You are quite obsessed and ask to play with your "swing-slide" daily.  We're hoping it entertains you for many years to come.

You've been enjoying spring.  You demand to walk everywhere and have been helping Mama in the yard.  We planted a strawberry garden area and you love helping Mama with watering it and spreading straw.  I'm hoping you enjoy picking the berries this summer.  We also went to a tulip farm for Easter and you loved picking the tulips (and destroying them).  We had a good THIRD! Easter with you - you got a basket and this was the first year that you loved hunting for eggs and kind of helped dye them...  We avoided seeing the Easter bunny, given that you were not a fan of Santa Claus.  You also had an Easter parade at school that Mama came to.  As soon as you spotted me, you wanted me to complete the parade with you!

Overall, you're such a good and happy toddler.  You just went to your doctor appointment for your 2 year check up.  No shots this time, thankfully, but you got a blood test for anemia and lead.  The doctor said you are in the 95th% for height (3 feet tall) and you weigh 28 pounds and 6 ounces, which is the exactly right for your height.  You are a tall girl like your Daddy!  You are talking up a storm - and as far as we can tell, talk way more than most 2 year olds.  You speak in almost full sentences and are very clear about what you want.  You can repeat any word Mama or Daddy says to you.  You also remember pages from books we read to you and will repeat them, in order, and on cue.  You know several songs, BINGO, twinkle twinkle little star, and the ABC song.  You can say your entire ABCs and you have learned your colors.  You are still working on counting - it goes something like one, two, three, five, chicken...  We aren't sure how the chicken comes in, but you're certain it's after five.

You are starting to eat more adventurously again, after a brief picky period.  You still love pasta and fruit.  You also love pickles and anything Mama is eating.  You still sleep about 12 hours a night and take a 2 hour nap.  You are doing pretty well at your new school, though you still hate being dropped off by Mama.  You seem like you're adjusting well to North Carolina - it's like you never lived anywhere else.  You loved the snow this year and love hanging in our yard.  You like all of our new neighbor friends and LOVE seeing your cousins and family.

Your Daddy and I love you and have enjoyed seeing you grow so much over the last year.  It's been such a joy to watch.

Love,
Mama
