Letter to Miss Dot at Three Months

Miss Dot,

You're three months old!  You've been a busy bee this month.

You went to the beach with mama, daddy and Kala which was quite an adventure (see previous post!).  You also spent some time hanging out with mama and the other babies in our mom/baby group, and doing fun things like going on play dates, going to brunch, and you got to celebrate daddy's first Father's Day.

Your baby friends.

This month you are full of surprises.  You are very awake and smile at mama and daddy a lot.  You think it's really funny to watch mama while she's eating and laugh at her every time she brings the fork to her mouth!  I think you're eyeing that food and getting ready to try some in a couple months.

You also love to practice your "neck skills."  Whenever we put you face down on our chests or do tummy time, you get down to business making hilarious sounds and holding your head up with your neck.  You're getting strong!  I think you'll be holding your head up on your own soon.

Your hands have also gotten stronger.  You manage to get them to your mouth more.  I think you are enjoying chewing on them, though sometimes you're still telling us you're hungry when you get them in there.  You also try to escape your Halo swaddle regularly and can still smack a bottle out of mama's hand when she is feeding you!

You're favorite activity is still bath time.  You love it - though the warmth of the water shocks you every time we put you in there.  You make a funny face and gasp as you're going in, but then you're all smiles and love to kick in the water.  You're also starting to try to escape from your bath seat, which is pretty funny, but mama and daddy have to wrangle you to keep you in there.

Overall, you're a very happy baby and are pretty well adjusted to life.  You are eating a bit more during the day, and prefer to snack all day long, which we are encouraging to try to get you to sleep more at night.  You have started going to bed consistently at about 8-8:30 pm, then sleep until 2 am (on daddy's shift), and then after a bottle at 2 am, you are a bit more unpredictable and wake up a couple of times angry.  But no matter what, you are AWAKE at 7 am and want to be fed.  No more being lazy in bed with mommy for another hour!

You had a great first Father's Day with daddy.  We went to a German Biergarten where daddy got to have some beer and sausage and sit outside on a nice day.  We also went to a BBQ restaurant the next day and then just hung out at home and relaxed.  For Father's Day you got daddy some Star Wars themed presents - a mug that says Yoda Best Daddy and a matching shirt and onesie that lets everyone know that he's your daddy.

With daddy on Father's Day.

You look a little concerned that daddy might drop you!  (Full disclosure - you were only about a month and 1/2 old in this picture, because mommy bought the wrong size onesie and you were quickly growing out of it.  So we had to take the picture a little early.)

Next month should be a good one - we are going to visit mama's family in North Carolina.  It should be a fun trip!

Love,
Mama
